Franz Lohner's Chronicle — Five Go Their Separate Ways

An absent-minded man of mysteries, Franz Lohner relies on his bulging journal to keep track of occurrences, intrigues and arguments around Taal's Horn Keep. Sometimes his notes are even useful, believe it or not. The Franz Lohner Chronicles are extracts from that journal.

Sienna’s still not herself, it pains me to say, but at least we’ve got a bit more of a picture to work with now. It’s looking like Sofia really is at the heart of all this. Why do I say that? Well, why else do you suppose Sienna would be traipsing off to Tockstadt, the village-that-never-was? She’s been gone an age, and without a word of farewell. Got me concerned, it has, and I don’t say that lightly.

Can’t see any practical reason for it, myself. After all, Tockstadt was nothing but one of Olesya’s dratted illusions and Olesya swears blind that she’s moved her tower on since we ... did whatever it was we did to Sofia. Says the tower’s “bound to several key sites on the leyline web” whatever that means, and that she can move it at will now it’s back under her control again. I mean, she says that, but who knows? Half the time she opens her mouth I can see her watching me intently, as if she’s not sure whether or not I’ll fall for her nonsense.

So what is there for Sienna in that blasted scrap of ice and snow? Kerillian reckons she’s searching for her sister’s spirit, trying to give it - and herself - a bit of peace. Old Salty firmly believes that Sofia’s not as dead and gone as we’re assuming, and that Sienna’s being a stubborn old cuss and trying to pick up the trail herself. Which is good coming from him, what with him being the stubbornest old cuss I ever did lay eyes upon.

I guess the smart thing would be to send what’s left of the Ubersreik Five off to have another
look, but the problem is ... they ain’t here.

Bardin’s gone looking for Hedda again - what is it with the womenfolk around here upping sticks and leaving without a proper goodbye? - and Kruber, bless what remains of his socks, tagged along to make sure he doesn’t get into more trouble than usual. The whole thing’s probably turned into a tavern-crawl by now. And I can’t send Kerillian and Salty off by themselves, now can I? While their relationship might have thawed a bit, it still feels like a guarantee that only one of them will come back. By which I mean “only Kerillian will come back”. Salty’s a handy fellow in a fight, but even with two eyes he’d never see her coming.

Dear oh dear. And here was I thinking we’d really turned a corner after that business with Be’lakor.

I hope Sienna’s safe. I really do.
